Isabel R. Smith

	Isabel R. Smith, age 81, of Du Quoin, passed away on Monday, November 8, 2004 in the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale at 10:15 a.m.
	Isabel was born on March 11, 1923 in Du Quoin the daughter of Joseph and Celina (Jollivette) Farquhar.  She married Virgil L. Smith Jr. on June 11, 1946 in Du Quoin and he preceded her in death on November 25, 1986.  Isabel worked for P.R. Mallory and as a secretary for Phelps Dodge in Du Quoin before retiring.  She was a lifelong member of the Smith Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church in Du Quoin where she served on the Trustee Board and as the church treasurer.  Isabel was also the chairman of the kitchen committee for the church and was a member of the Helen B. Peter Missionary Society.  She loved her family and friends and was always there to help when needed.
	Survivors include two children, Lucille Smith and Virgil Jodie Smith both of Du Quoin;  two sisters, Rev. Harriet Hooks of Bell Flower, Calif. and Myrtle Woody and husband Harding of East St. Louis;  four grandchildren, Chasity Person and husband James II, Virgil Lonnie Smith, Harvey Eugene Smith and Celina Green; six great-grandchildren, Sian Person, Virgil Ashton Smith, Kayla Person, Jaden Smith, Traijon Smith, and James Person III and numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
	She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one sister, Gertrude Phillips; three brothers, Peter Farquhar, Milton Farquhar, and Ozel Farquhar; two nephews, Melvin Farquhar and Milton Farquhar; a sister-in-law, Lucille Farquhar and a brother-in-law, Alex Hooks
	Funeral services were held on Friday, November 12, 2004 at the Smith Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church in Du Quoin at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Freddie Banks officiating assisted by Sister Theresa Flagg.  Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in DuQuoin.  
	Visitation was held on Thursday, November 11, 2004 at the Pyatt-Harrawood & Epplin Funeral Home in Du Quoin from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.  Memorial donations may be given to the Smith Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church.
